Welcome!

Hi, I'm Dexter, an Engineer-in-Training and a MASc student focusing on applying my biomechatronic engineering skills to help people directly by working closely with them. I received the NSERC Canadian Graduate Scholarship-Master’s (CGSM) to support my research in preclinical spinal cord injury and improving a newly developed injury test platform.

I've had the privilege of diving into a diverse scope of previous projects that required creative solutions. I, along with a team of fellow MSE and Sustainable Energy Engineering students, won second place in the Canadian Engineering Competition for Innovative Design. In addition, I was part of an undergraduate capstone team that retrofitted a manufacturing system for Industry 4.0, where I implemented computer vision-aided control capabilities and created a digital twin. This need for creativity and innovation is what drives me.

Furthermore, I'm always eager to discover what's happening in the ever-evolving world. Inspirations sometimes come from the most unexpected places. The arts play such a pivotal role in what we imagine is possible, and one of my biggest inspirations is from a film called Big Hero 6 that I watched when I was younger. It opened my eyes to the world of robots in medicine, specifically soft robotics. I aspire to work on making that vision of medical robots closer to reality.
